I came across this website containing an archive of thousands of names, their roots and their meanings. Yeah, some parents just miraculously gave their kids amazing names. I searched for the names of my barkada, and I dedicate this all to you, but I must start with my own name. Now, this isn’t complete yet, but I promise it will be in some future posts.:D
Daniel Ruperto
Daniel is Hebrew for “God has judged,” “God is my judge,” or “Judgment of God.” Ruperto basically means “of great fame” or “attractive” in two different languages. so the variations of my name are:
“God has judged me to be famous.”
“God is my famous judge”
“God has judged me to be attractive.” (My favorite.XD)
“God is my attractive judge.”
John Kevin
John, roughly translated back into its Hebrew roots means “Yahweh is gracious.” (It’s awesome that they can make an entire sentence out of one syllable.) Kevin comes from an old irish word that means any of the three: kind, gentle or handsome. So Kevin’s name could mean any of the following:
“Yahweh is gracious and kind.”
“Yahweh is gracious and gentle.”
“Yahweh is gracious and handsome.”
Rosario Carmen
Rosario means rosary (wow…), and Carmen is a variation of Carmel, which means song. So RC’s name means “Rosary Song.”
Gerardo Juan Luis
For those who don’t know, this long-winded name belong to Luigi, whose parents seemed quite angry at the time they were making up his name. Gerard translates into “brave” or “hardy.” Juan is simply a variation of John, or “Yahweh is gracious.”Luis translates into old Germanic into “brave warrior.” Therefore, Luigi’s name means:
“Yahweh the Brave/Hardy is Gracious to the Brave Warrior.”
Mary Kathleen
Now, Kate’s name, at first might seem quite simple, but according to linguistics, it is not. Mary could be translated into any of the following: “sea of bitterness,” “rebelliousness,” “wished for child,” “beloved” or “love.” (Yihee!) Kathleen could mean “each of the two,” “my consecration of your name,” “pure,” or “torture.”(0_o) Therefore:
“A sea of bitterness for/from each of the two.”
“Rebelliousness for/from each of the two.”
“Each of the two wished for a child.”
“A sea of bitterness for/from my beloved.”
“A sea of bitterness for/from love.” (Aww…)
“Rebelliousness for/from love.” (AWW…)
“Rebelliousness for/from my beloved.” (AWWWWW…)
“A sea of pure bitterness.” (emo-ness)
“Pure rebelliousness.” (sounds kick-ass)
“Pure love.” (YIHEEE!!!!!)
(etc., sorry, there are lots more, but I’m too lazy. hahaha.XD)
Giankarlo
This, apparently is a combination of Gianni and Karlo. Gianni is short for Giovanni, which apparently is Italian for John. (???) Karlo could mean “man,” *cough* “army,” or “warrior.” Thus:
“Yahweh is gracious to the man/army/warrior.”
See? Even my name’s emo. XD
my mum said when everyone was agreeing on the rosario carmen bit, she thought people went bonkers. seems she was right. lolXD
wait lang, wait lang.
what’s with the yihee? D:
my name does not mean pure love. D:<
nor is it related, in any way, to rushing hormones, infatuation, and/or lurve.
