Movie Review: Hancock

Hancock

A commonly seen poster

With this movie review, I’ll start by immediately giving my rating: three out of five.

I remember the first time I saw the trailer, Luigi told me: “I want to watch it just for the stupid factor.” I had the same idea, but after watching it, I can say that the movie’s not a total loss.

The movie barely had a plot, and what little plot it had was atrocious. No story structure was followed, and the events that led to the ending didn’t actually justify the climax enough. Even the fact that Hancock was a drunkard and slob didn’t fit into the story. It just seemed convenient for more interesting character development.

The conceptual basis on which it was formed was so-so. Being a superhero fan, it is interesting to see what superheroes would have been called 3000 years ago.

What saved this movie were Will Smith and Charlize Theron, its dramatic sequences and its cinematography. The performances of Will Smith and Charlize Theron, with the expert rendering of dramatic sequences and almost flawless cinematography, were heartbreakingly believable, and that’s what saved this movie.

In general, this movie was certainly bankable. And with a horrible first release, there’s always a chance for an awesome sequel.
